Veigel Transfer Board
Seating Extension That Makes Getting In/Out of Your Car a Breeze
Modern car seats use side bolsters on the back and bottom cushions to prevent drivers and passengers from sliding side-to-side while the car is in motion. While they’re designed to provide support and comfort, they also create an unintentional “valley” effect between bolsters that makes it challenging for older adults, those with health conditions, or those with insufficient physical strength to easily exit or enter the car.
The Veigel Comfort Transfer Board is a simple aid that rotates down and adds an extended seating platform outward towards the door. When exiting, this extra platform allows users to scoot themselves sideways “out of the valley” rather than to try and lift themselves upwards out of it. Because the Transfer Board also extends beyond the door frame, the car’s grab handle becomes more accessible and easier to use.
The Transfer Board can be installed on either side of the car, the platform is wide enough to safely bridge the gap if used with a wheelchair or walker, and can be detached so it doesn’t interfere with other drivers or when not in use. If “falling” into a car seat feels unsafe and struggling to get out of a car seat becomes too exhausting, the Veigel Comfort Transfer Board is an easy-to-use tool that allows older adults independent access to their vehicles safely and comfortably.
