HomeAware
A Multi-Sensory Alert System
Although sensory changes are a common part of aging, for seniors who experience hearing difficulties it can be an especially challenging time. They’ll often miss a phone call, won’t hear a knock at the door, or may not be aware of when a smoke alarm is triggered. Without the ability to detect or react to surrounding sounds, a senior may be left feeling disconnected or can become apprehensive about their safety.
To help address this issue, HomeAware offers a multi-sensory alert system that notifies users when a noise or action occurs. The smart system can differentiate between distinct types of events such as a cellphone ringing, a home security trigger, or a TV/radio weather alert. It then uses a combination of sight, sound, and shaker devices to provide context so that users have a better understanding of how to react.
The centerpiece of the system is an oversized alarm clock with a large two-inch scrolling display that shows messages. Additional flashing beacons, a 105 dB alarm, and vibrating shakers can be placed throughout the home so that alerts can be seen from wherever someone is located.
HomeAware allows seniors to confidently navigate their homes while remaining aware of what's happening around them. It provides invaluable peace of mind to families and caregivers so that their loved ones, even with hearing limitations, can remain safe, secure, and independent on their own terms.
