Memory loss is a hallmark of dementia and can manifest itself in a variety of subtle ways. It may start with forgetting appointments, struggling with time management, or having difficulty following established routines. As challenges become more frequent, a senior's overall quality of life can decline, not only for themself but also for their families and caregivers, where concerns can cause additional stress and anxiety for everyone involved.
Having a predictable and organized structure can help decrease a dementia patient's sense of anxiety and reduce their dependence on others. To manage these complexities, DAKboard is a digital display app that provides daily information (such as the current date, time, and weather), a calendar of activities, and communication (messaging and photo sharing) in one central location. It simplifies the process of accessing multiple sources of information and creates a visual routine that's easier to focus on.
This versatile app can be downloaded onto most smart devices (TVs, Amazon Alexa, Google Chromecast, or a WiFi connected device with access to a web browser). To configure the output display, DAKboard offers a simple web-based interface through any laptop, tablet, or smartphone and can be fully customized with widgets (news, weather, entertainment, lists, communication), large, easy-to-read fonts, and calming background images to enhance visibility and comfort.
As a practical matter, a loved one with dementia can see their daily schedule of events, a calendar of future events with the support of a countdown clock (managed by family and caregivers), stay informed by news and weather, and be entertained with photos and videos shared by their family - all from one device. DAKboard isn't just a solution for displaying information; it's a way to provide structure, connection, and a sense of independence for seniors facing cognitive decline.

Thanks for subscribing! Dakboard has the flexibility to create customized or timed messages. Instead of statically asking your loved one to go for a walk everyday at 2:00 pm, you can vary the message between days or times (however you'd like to enter the reminder - through the calendar or a personalized note). You can also use a voice assistant for these tasks, but having a centralized point of focus (like Dakboard) lessens confusion and anxiety for Dementia patients.
An even better solution may be on the horizon, however, as devices with AI will be able to differentiate and evaluate activity levels (based on sensor data) before autonomously suggesting appropriate weather related activities (going for a walk) or an indoor activity if warranted.
Love this idea! Have you found a good solution for daily reminders like taking medications or going for a walk?
